Parenthacking
by Whitney
What great fortune it is to be raising our children in a time during which the exchange of ideas has become so easy. There are more sites on the Internet than can be catalogued. There are even more parenting sites than can be read by the most enthusiastic of blog-reading parents. Today I want to highlight one parenting site that everyone should know about.
It's called ParentHacks.com and it was founded by Asha Dornfest. Her idea is this: we all come up with tricks, or hacks, that work for us as we go about our day-to-day parenting business. Why not facilitate the sharing of these hacks so that everyone can benefit from them? A sort of open source parenting code, if you will.
Hacks published on the site range from tricks to get more vegetables into your kids to how to keep hairbands organized.
One of my all time favorite hacks is a simple idea that I have used myself several times.
Write your phone number on your kid's belly with a Sharpie.
How it works: When you go to the zoo, county fair or other busy place where getting lost is a possibility, take a Sharpie and write “My mom's cell phone # is XXX-XXX-XXXX” on your child's tummy. Instruct your child to find another mommy to show this to should she become lost.
Brilliant, right?
Asha collects hacks from parents who submit them, tags them with categories such as “potty”, “sleep”, or “behavior” and publishes them for our consumption. It's like having the smartest parents in the world as your older brothers and sisters.
Click over there to read some amazing tips from parents who care about the health and safety of their children as much as you do.
