Prepared for disaster

by Whitney

Frankly, I expected to be bored to tears when Heather asked me to come to her house for a “disaster preparedness party.” No offense to the other guests, Wendy and Victoria, who I was looking forward to seeing in person, but I figured we'd be listening to some speakers drone on about technical things like gas lines and emergency response systems.

But guess what – it was really quite engaging. As soon as the lovely and charismatic firefighter Erica said, “I know the first thing you guys are going to do is run straight into your kids' room without slippers on,” she had my attention. Slippers? I'd be running in there without any pants on!

Note to self: keep slippers or flip-flops bedside. In the case of a disaster that creates broken glass, you do not want to be useless to your family because you're nursing cut-up feet.

I think we each could have listed about ten tips that we thought we'd go home and put into action right away, but I asked everyone to keep it down to 30 seconds for this video. Heather took two turns, cause that's just how she is.

  1. Hey thanks for sharing our words with the world, but I didn’t need to go two times (even if I am like that)… my message is the same: stock up on peanut butter.

  2. Marilyn says:

Looking forward to new tips. Thanks
